Forget April Fools because this year April starts officially on Thursday the 5th. For one night only Costa Mesa and Stanton island will be united under the Wu-Tang banner, and what better person to facilitate this madness than Inspectah Deck? Being the second most featured MC on their breakthrough LP ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)‘, Inspectah was featured on all the Wu’s biggest tracks that brought their sound worldwide (C.R.E.A.M. & Triumph anyone?). With too many classics to list and a career that is spearheading into its 3rd decade of existence, innovation, and relevance, you’re gonna have to see for yourself what he and Colt Seavers have planned for their West Coast invasion. Miss this night and you can never say ‘I love hip hop’ again!

Representing Orange County in the talent corner is Local Hip Hop veteran cutter and scratcher: DJ Dax. To break it down most simply… If you are even somewhat of a remote fan of hip hop, then you know where to be this Thursday.

C.A.M.M with Superhumanoids, Races, & No

Collaborative Media teams up with the SUN Group for this Saturdays second installment of the C.A.M.M. Outdoor Series. Already being called one of the freshest forms of nightlife offered in Orange County, C.A.M.M. is invading South Coast Plaza Village along with the never resting ‘Superhumanoids‘, who themselves had just finished a whirlwind of shows from SXSW, to SF, back to LA, building an army of followers that does nothing but grows. While their combination of 60s harmony’s and 90s grit and progression would seem likely to flounder within an instant, come see why it not only works, it flourishes. See for yourself what all the talk is about as they take to the outdoor stage on Saturday.

Packed with Talent from the beginning, Saturdays lineup boasts the talents of Races, and No, which does nothing more than legitimize the legitimacy of this weekends most legit event. All killer, n no filler, AND its under the stars… Really, what more could you want?

Saturdays two-part event schedule is a one-two punch guaranteed to level anyone that stands in its way with a continued party featuring Australia’s own homegrown pride: Flight Facilities.

As most dance music lovers undoubtedly are familiar with last summers anthem ‘ Crave You’ I hardly feel the need for an introduction and would instead like to move focus to the fact that The talent list doesn’t end there. Kedd Cook Will bringing the Orange County Dance Flair to the stage, and not to mention, there will be a surprise guest at Detroit Bar that you will have to come and see for yourself. As a devout web journalist i try to stay true to my craft and not over-hype things, but exceptions exist, and this is EPIC!

If all you LA based fans can’t make it down for the night, theres no reason to be bummed, as were bringing the party up to the renowned Dim Mak Studios Tuesday night. Flight Facilities will be touching down one last time to complete their So-Cal trilogy of gigs. Joining Flight Facilities in Hollywood will be a special performance by Flight Facilities vocalist Jess Higgs, along with a set by the Bixel Boys, fresh from their appearance at the Snowball Festival.

Tuesdays at Dim Mak Studios is the longest running weekly in Hollywood, and this ones not gonna be a easy one to top.

Blood Orange with Trust & Tropicool at Detroit bar

Wow who hasn’t this guy worked with. After some further research this Wednesday night event is my personal most anticipated of the month. Blood Orange AKA Lightspeed Champion or more personally as Dev Hynes has dipped his hands in every possible artist’s projects to create an outcome so unique that its almost physically impossible to resist. From collaborating with Florence and the Machine, to Diana Vickers, to The Faint, to Bright Eyes, to The Wombats, to Basement Jaxx, to the almighty Chemical Brothers on their Grammy winning album ‘We Are the Night‘ (which is one of my favorite all time albums…).

Blood Orange is the Music Equivalent of throwing everything in the pantry into the blender and pressing puree. Blood Orange being Dev’s most electronicly incorporated project yet, expect to be blown away musically, sonically, and emotionally. And expect to Dance. A bunch! Make sure to get there early to catch the Dark-Wave Synth Pop Toranto Duo “Trust” and a vibes filled opening set by ‘Gotta Dance Dirty‘ favorite Tropicool!

There you got it! Fresh off the press – it’s what all the FUSS is about!?! From true NY Hip Hop to genre bending musical progression, April has what you want, or should I say…

Fred Falke with Poolside at V-Lounge
Saturday, March 3rd

The action actually started this last Saturday, but don’t get hung on the technicalities cuz it was one non -stop dance party as the French invaded Santa Monica. Right from the get go Warchild was dropping classic cuts that set the stage for Orange County’s Kedd Cook to get the place really going. He might be no chef but Kedd was definitely cookin’ in the kitchen and it was hot enough to make you want to lay out poolside… Which was quite convenient because Poolside was there for support and absolutely took the show to another level with the finest mid tempo disco selections.

Meanwhile outside, the hordes of people trying to get in was completely in sync with the dancefloor destruction inside V-lounge… And finally at midnight, making an entrance like a king, except with his bass guitar instead of a crown, Fred Falke took hold of the stage and the attention of every last person inside the club.

The vibes were 100% as Fred turned it up to 11. Lights flashing, bass bangin, and the fog that engulfed the dance floor almost made you forget about all the really good looking people - this show was stacked from top to bottom But that didn’t phase Fred as he kept the entire audience under the hypnotic spell of his magical bass riffs – a truly, full grown wizard. Definitely a night for the books. If you were there… you know what I’m talkin’ bout, and if you weren’t…. well then… sort it out brother/sister!

Jacques Lu Cont & Jason Bentley at Detroit Bar

Jacques Lu Cont and LA’s Jason Bentley are teaming up to create a night of dancing, dancing, and um more dancing! Gearing up for his highly anticipated set at this years sold out Coachella Festival, Jacques was available for an exclusive set in Orange County.

Meanwhile Jason Bentley put down his duties at the revered KCRW Radio Station to come down and take his air-wave butter to the club. This night is for both the veterans and newcomers to house music, and is definitely an event that will not come around again any time soon. You know the saying ‘Fool me once… shame on you. Fool me twice… shame on me.’

So if you missed out on Fred Falke in Santa Monica tie your shoelaces, because there’s no excuse for trippin’ on this one.

Slay Dem X RVCA Takeover with Them Jeans, Fuss, Rankin, and 3 Kilos at Detroit Bar

Slay Dem and RVCA are back, and bigger than ever. Securing a DJ set from the one and only ‘Them Jeans‘ this event will be straight bass, bangers, n babes. Them Jeans had a huge 2012 releasing remixes and bootlegs from the likes of Diplo, Ellie Goulding, The XX, SBTRKT, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, all while receiving massive radio play. He is a DJ that knows the 3 B’s… And a man with only one mission… to make you get down!

And if that’s not enough… for this special event, local leading noble twiddlers Fuss, Rankin, and 3 Kilos will be coming together under the same bill to unleash the sounds of dance music’s tomorrow for this special night. With their label ‘Slay Dem Recordings‘ Fuss, Rankin, and 3 Kilos have been dominating the west coast stopping at nothing to keep your feet moving and subs grooving. Taking note of their grassroots following from SD to SF, and performance at the one and only Pacific Festival, clothing company RVCA picked up all three producer/DJs to be part of their movement.

The only prerequisite for this party is a love of loud quality dance music. If you got that… then welcome to the Slay Dem Army, and get ready to see Them Jeans do what he does best…

Patrick Park & I Hate You Just Kidding with Cherokee Fade at Detroit Bar

You might know him as the artist who made ‘Life Is a Song‘ which was used as the series finale theme for the Fox series ‘The OC‘, but music lovers know him from his 9+ full length albums and EPs. His live element arguably is the greatest gift he holds though, as he can turn the darkest hole in the wall bar into a modern day lovers lane.

Adding a solid as rock foundation to this soulful night is two of Costa Mesas freshest bands, ‘I Hate You Just Kidding & Cherokee fade‘. I Hate You Just Kidding recently came back from their national tour to get their song featured on ABC’s Private Practice. This along with their true raw talent has turned these hometown heroes into staples of the Costa Mesa music scene.

Cherokee Fade on the other hand is just getting the attention they rightly deserve and is headed by Orange County’s own rebel rousers ‘The Pricks’ drummer Kevin Yoches and Erin Rose. This is a night to bring your date to, or to find that special someone to bring home to mum.

So keep it casual, comb your hair and open your heart to this hot bath of talent, all you lovers!

Riton with American Royalty & Kedd Cook at Detroit Bar
Saturday, March 24th

Direct from London, Collaborative Media and Detroit Bar host a very special night featuring the British Producer Riton. You might know him better as one half of the duo Carte Blanche, a project he did with the late, great, DJ Mehdi of Ed Banger Records. Expect to hear some tracks from the duo and come out to celebrate the life of a great producer and human being.

Playing along with Riton will be the unstoppable Guns in the Sun’s American Royalty heading south to stake a claim in Orange County after conquering Los Angeles and a national tour.

To round up the bill nicely Kedd Cook will once again be playing his sleek approach to house which has been making thousands of attendees get down at any one of his extremely successful weekly’s over the last 2 years. The lineup on the 24th is proof that the reputation of Detroit Bar is building, and it’s only gaining steam.

Orchard Lounge (Exclusive 3 hour set) at Detroit Bar

Coming straight outta Chi Town (HOLLAAA). Orchard Lounge is a collective of 3 Djs who have played from the darkest sweaty clubs to festivals worldwide side by side with acts like Booka Shade and The Disco Bisquits. Expect the unexpected with this 3 hour set.

From laid back chilled breakbeat, soulful Chicago House, all the way to hands in the air tech house, Orchard Lounge’s live reputation is overwhelmingly positive and can be found all over the internet, coming from the mouths of the people that have experienced them live; if you can move, Orchard Lounge will back you up. This is the refreshment to the monotony of commercial tunes saturating Socal’s club scene, look no further. In fact… its best to look at this night as a musical adventure, and everyone loves adventures right? just ask Bilbo…

On Valentines Day Detroit Bar played host to Howlin Rain as they celebrated the debut of their new album “The Russian Wilds“. With an impressive roster of talent that included Allah-Las, Church Of Sun, and Wovette, the night was a beautiful showcase that Genuine Rock n Roll is still being made.

“The Russians Wild’ is the bands 5th studio album released under Columbia and produced by the Illustrious Rick Rubin.

Presidents Day Weekend at Hyde Lounge at Mammoth Mountain

The party started last Friday in Mammoth at the reverred Hyde Lounge. Patriots migrated from all over to celebrate Presidents Day Weekend in true style… Spending the days in fresh powder and dancing at night to the surprise DJ acts that turned the heat up on the mountain…

Next weeks block of great music starts on Wednesday the 22^nd, and comes along with a great cause as South America’s own rising stars ‘Brothers of Brazil’ touch down in Costa Mesa to share the stage with local leading noise makers ‘Slime Kings’. This night is being put together as a fundraiser and benefit for one of the friendliest and most amazing girls we’ve ever met: Becca Willis… Who, sadly, has been hospitalized after getting struck by a car this weekend. This event is your chance to come out, make a difference, and show that you support this truly beautiful person, whether you’ve been blessed to have met her or not. The healing power of music is second to none and on Wednesday, the pairing of these artists will make music so loud that the vibes will most definitely carry all the way over to the hospital.

Happily Never After – Official After Party with Young Adults at Detroit Bar

Turn the calendar one page over to Thursday the 23^rd and head down to the Lido Theater in Newport Beach for the long anticipated premier of Jamie Heinrich’s newest film: ‘Happily Never After’. The buzz surrounding this movie is overwhelming and this is premiere is not the one to skip. Take a day off and soak in what a great week you’ve had already… then grab your favorite gal as Collaborative Media brings the energy with the heavyweight synergy created by Fred Falke and Bag Raiders (DJ Set). Either name on its own has enough merit to headline this event by themselves easily. The coupling of these titans is the nightlife equivalent of winning the lottery. So cash in and head to Detroit Bar and learn once more why Saturday is the best day of the week. Add in a set by ‘Plastic Plates’ and the 25^th is one stacked night! Up next on the event parade is a night that will not happen again any time soon… and that’s a guarantee. The 28th presents Trouble & Bass label owner “Drop The Lime‘ playing a 100% pure rockabilly DJ set at Costa Mesa’s own Memphis Cafe.

Drop the Lime has headlined any and every event you can think of. From packing Avalon’s Control Friday all the way to bringing down the house (or tent I should say) at the renowned Coachella Festival, he is revered for always doing his own thing… and doing it better than most.
